Liu Sifen is native to Shaxi Town of Zhongshan City. In January, 1944, he was born in a family with literary background. His father Liu Yisheng was a famous journalist, poet and literary critic. Liu Sifen is an excellent theorist in literature and art. The Zhaoyang cultural theory advanced by him promotes the development of culture in Guangdong. He is also a versatile artist, having great accomplishments in writing novels, academic research, arts and calligraphy, etc. His long historical novel entitled Bai Menliu won the fourth Mao Dun Literature Award, the highest literary award of saga novel in China. Up till now, he has been the only writer in Guangdong Province who has won such distinguished award.

In recent years, he has been mainly interested in painting. A lot of his figure paintings have been exhibited in his hometown Zhongshan and other cities in Guangdong, which are praised as new literati paintings.
