On March 12, the third day of the second lunar month, Yagang Village in Sanxiang Town held the annual traditional cultural event as scheduled. Folk performances, such as the Piaose parade, firecracker-grabbing and puppet shows, were staged one after another, carrying people's good wishes for favorable weather, prosperity and peace.
Around 11:30 am, people gathered at the Xibao Welfare Association and tasted rice-flour noodles and glutinous rice cakes.
Around 12 o'clock, a grand parade of several hundred people set off from the Lu's Temple. The most captivating performance in the parade is the Piaose, while the most popular one is the three long "Loongs", which drew shutterbugs to take photos.
Ricky Wong, a TVB artist from Hong Kong, was among the crowd, doing live streaming for the parade. "I really enjoy the delicious food in Sanxiang, and I often come here to stay with my family," said Ricky.
The fellow townsmen associations in Hong Kong and Macao have invited a group of fellow villagers to come back and join this year's parade. Some relatives also come back from Costa Rica to enjoy a vacation," said a villager.
About 2:30 pm, firecracker-grabbing competition, a traditional activity in Yagang Village, began at Chen's Ancestral Temple, bringing laughter and joy.
