The background of Private Memorial Middle School of Premier’s Hometown: Zhongshan was made Model Town and directly subordinate to Kuomintang Government as decide in the 19th State Conference on Feb. 8, 1929. Zhongshan Concentrating Governing Committee was founded to guide concentrating governing construction in Zhongshan on Apr. 9, 1929. Kuomintang Government opened the anniversary ceremony of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s death in Nanjing on Jun. 1, 1929. Sun Ke, a member of Zhongshan Concentrating Governing Committee brought forward in the second session of the second committee conference the construction of a memorial school (what is now Zhongshan Memorial Middle School) in Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s hometown to build a model Zhongshan and a model Cuiheng Village. And Mr. Sun Ke was responsible for its construction.

The construction of the school was started on Nov. 27, 1931 and finished in 1933. Its full name was called Private Memorial Middle School of Premier’s Hometown before liberation while it was renamed as Zhongshan Memorial Middle School after the foundation of the PRC.
