The income growth rate of rural residents in Zhongshan has surpassed that of urban residents for several consecutive years, and the urban-rural income ratio has gradually decreased from 1.59 in 2012 to 1.44 in 2021.

The Engel's coefficient of Zhongshan residents decreased from 38.6% in 2012 to 33.9% in 2021, and the average living standard of Zhongshan residents reached a relatively affluent level, exceeding the standard of a well-off society.
